Photoshoot setup
My photoshoot setup was inspired by graffitied areas of Brooklyn from images I’ve seen on the internet. I decided to use newspapers as well because lil Kim was a big headline name back in the 90s. She was imprisoned for a year and in her song lil drummer boy she mentioned her injustice. So using the newspapers represented that side of her. I graffitied on the newspapers words that she had represented back in the day, like a sexual figure and a feminist. I used sheet and tape that marked fragile- this was to show the kind soft side of lil Kim. The sheet had wall like graffitis. Although the backgrounds as the street vibe and aesthetic I tried to include as much props representing lil Kim as a person.
The models had simple natural like makeup because lil Kim makeup in the 90s were either over the top or natural, I decided to go with the natural look and just added a small amount of eye makeup using an orange line on the lid and lined lips with gloss to tie the look together. I added small accessories such as small hoop earrings and ring on the fingers as well as nose cuffs on the nose. The less busy outfit( skirt and top) I added a silver chain and two nose cuffs.
The nose cuffs were handmade by me. I used wire along with purple and brown gemstones. Each model had different hairstyles. One model had a long ponytail which was done by me as shown in the video and the other model had on a dark brown wig with streaks of light brown to match the jacket of the look. Her hair was straight and flat so that the hood of the jacket would lay nicely on her head.
The models poses were casual freestyle poses, i allowed the models to have fun as they were naturally doing the poses I wanted whilst listening to lil Kim music in the background.
