CONCEPT

 My concepts revolves around lil Kim and her home town, Brooklyn. The mastermind behind 90s female rap, I proudly introduce the Brooklyn beehive nation. The concept reflects the home streets and narratives about her in the 90s. Lil Kim had a life then that involved drugs, abuse, sex and law. Although she was known in the media for those aspects of her life, her music outshone it all. With her album Notorious Kim, where she spoke about her pass with the Notorious Big to her injustice with the law. I knew that I wanted to include her song lyrics throughout my work. I looked at her 90s fashion, when she wore very scandalous clothing that shows off her figure. I wanted to based my designs off of her fashion. Whilst  doing research about this young female rapper I came across her home town Brooklyn , where she grew up. I immediately started looking at the street art on walls such as graffiti and the street aesthetic.  Throughout my concepts I tried to replicate her fashion style on myself, finding clothes in my wardrobe that was similar to hers as well as wigs for hair variation, as she had different hairstyles to put together her look and her makeup which was mostly natural glam with a bold lip. I used dark skin models that represent the black culture and diverse hairstyles and shaped and clothing.
